Sage 50 Payroll Certification is the only accredited performance-based certification program approved by Sage. This certification involves passing an online exam, which takes about an hour and can be taken whenever suits you. There are three levels of certification to choose from.

These tests includes drag and drop scenarios, multiple choice questions and simulations on using Sage 50 Payroll. Sage will email you full details of how to prepare for, access and complete your online exam and become Sage certified.

After you pass the exam you’ll receive a Sage 50 Payroll Certificate as proof of your Sage 50 Payroll skills.

As these exams are taken solely online we recommend you check these technical requirements before purchasing.

Level 1
  • Navigate confidently in Sage 50 Payroll
  • Check the legislation settings in your software
  • Configure your software to suit your company requirements
  • Set-up and amend:
    • Employee Records#
    • Payments and Deductions
    • Basic Pension Schemes
    • Users and Access Rights
  • Understand reports in the system that aid in the completion of tasks such as Pay Elements Reports and Company Detail reports
Level 2
  • Run a basic weekly or monthly payroll
  • Email appropriate payslips to employees
  • Perform and submit RTI routines including:
    • Full Payment Submission (FPS)
    • National Insurance Number Verification (NVR)
    • Employer Payment Summary (EPS)
  • Correct errors during processing using the Rollback and Restore functions
  • Set up new starters and process leavers
  • Complete Period End Routines including producing the P32
  • Process electronic payments to employees and HMRC directly from Sage Payroll

  • Process statutory payments including:
    • Statutory Sick Pay
    • Maternity Pay
    • Paternity Pay
  • Allocate and process Attachment of Earnings
  • Create and administrate Holiday schemes and employee absence
  • Produce historical reports including payslips
  • Amend payslips and create basic reports in the Report Designer tool
